REPEAT SEASON

Welcome! 🎉 In an effort to stop spamming my friends with constant women’s basketball updates, I’ve created this newsletter. I know—so generous of me. No need to thank me! I’m here to keep you informed on most things WBB.

Table of Contents

Team by Team Updates

As we get closer to the season, you’ll start to see teams announce preseason games, sign training camp players, and make big moves. Only 56 days left until tip-off!

Now, here’s the ESPN schedule—and honestly, ESPN is missing out on a huge opportunity to grow the league and create new fans. There are so many amazing players who deserve more national shine, but the imbalance here is wild. I get the business side, but this feels lopsided.

Also, can we talk about the Liberty? They switched our weekend home games to 12:30 PM and 1 PM tip-offs. Super annoying. We’re the defending champs, yet we still don’t get priority for our own home games? Make it make sense.

One game for the Sparks is INSANE. You have Cam Brink, Rickea, KP, and Hamby on the same team and you only give them one game? And they said F- the Mystics all together lol

Atlanta Dream

The Dream has 23 nationally televised games this year.

Atlanta’s first game will be against the Indiana Fever and they have moved to the MUCH bigger State Farm Arena to host her. I really want the Dream to get a new arena soon, theirs is the smallest in the league.

The Sky have 24 nationally televised games this season, the fourth most in the league. I believe the draw of Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso is being underrated.

Connecticut Sun

In a surprising move during the Unrivaled Finals and Selection Sunday, the Sun traded Natasha Cloud to the New York Liberty for the 7th pick in this year’s draft and a 2026 first-rounder. Offloading that $200K contract makes it feel like Connecticut has something up its sleeve. I keep saying it, but the Sun basically has the entire Belgian national team coaching staff—hard to believe Emma Meesseman isn’t at least a little tempted to join.

The Sun only has 16 national TV games this year, tied for last in the league. No surprise, considering they blew up the roster.

Dallas Wings

The Dallas Wings have 23 nationally televised games this season—more than the Lynx! Clearly, that’s in anticipation of them drafting Paige Bueckers. Speaking of Paige, a controversial article recently suggested she might sit out a year due to the ongoing CBA negotiations, aiming to bypass the rookie scale contract for a better payday. I highly doubt she actually does that, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on.

Los Angeles Sparks

The Sparks have 23 nationally televised games this season, most of them on ION. Surprisingly, they only landed one ESPN game. With KP, Hamby, Brink, and Rickea, I expected them to be a much bigger draw. I’m sure they’ll prove ESPN wrong.

On another note, Dearica had an emotional moment reflecting on the rekindling of her friendship with Kelsey Plum. Can’t wait to see these two back on the court together.

Minnesota Lynx

The Lynx come in 5th place in nationally televised games with 20 games. Now this shocked me. The way y’all were acting like the Lynx and Phee were the best things since sliced bread. It’s weird to me that the runner-ups won’t get more time but I guess folks don’t want to see that dry ass electric slide. All jokes aside, Phee is gonna be on a revenge/MVP tour this season and they should’ve gotten more TV love.

ARGPRINVAPEWCNAWVNACPANECPANAV. WE GOT TASH CLOUD. WE ARE REPEATING WHORES!!!!!! AHHGNPVWNFCPJQWFNRVEQNCVN!!! JAVFNEPV!!!

IN KOLB WE TRUST. GANG GANG! Our fearless leader, General Manager Mr. Jonathan Kolb,DID IT AGAIN!

He just traded the 7th pick and a 2026 first-rounder to the Sun for Natasha Cloud. THIS IS MASSIVE. We’ve all seen the chemistry building between Tash and Sabrina while playing together on the Phantom in Unrivaled. But this goes deeper — WE NEEDED A POINT GUARD, and Kolb delivered.

As a gritty two-way PG, Cloud’s passing and defense are about to elevate this squad to a whole new level. Picture it: Stewie. JJ. Leonie. Tash. Betnijah. Kennedy. WE’RE LOCKING EVERYONE UP. The whole squad’s about to be an All-Defense unit. Good luck scoring on us.

On top of that, adding Tash’s $200K contract finally opens the door for us to officially bring back Liberty Legend Marine Johannes! She’s coming back on a vet minimum at just $66K (highway robbery—she should be getting at least 100K, honestly). Fun fact: Marine is the longest-tenured Liberty player and the last link to the Westchester days before the team moved to Brooklyn.

And the cherry on top? Mrs. 30 herself, Breanna Stewart, can finally sign her contract. She took a big pay cut to make all this happen—clearing the path for Tash and MJ to join the roster. It’s not official yet, but it’s coming soon (deadline is April 6th).

WE ARE COOKING. SEE YOU IN THE FINALS. LIBS IN 4!!!

OH AND THE LIBERTY HAVE THE THIRD MOST TELEVISED GAMES AT 31 BEHIND THE ACES AND FEVER. COOL COOL WE HEARD YALL 🙄

Unrivaled: Wrap-Up

So…. All my predictions were wrong LOL

Semi-Finals

Rose V Laces

This game was EPIC! The Laces weren’t at full strength with Jackie Young out, but honestly, I think fatigue played a big role too. They controlled the first half, but then Chelsea Gray flipped the switch, went full Finals MVP mode, and gave us another signature Point Gawd performance. I was literally in awe the entire time 😂 — just straight belt to ass to drag her squad to the championship, even without Angel.

And Chelsea???? Ice cold. She hit the game-winner and followed it up with 3 cellys: the ice in the veins, the Ja Morant “call 12” " and the Dame Lillard “Bye Bye” — pure comedy and killer instinct at the same time.

Also gotta give flowers to Naz Hillmon, who subbed in for The Rose and put on a defensive masterclass in her first Unrivaled game. If you remember from a few newsletters ago, Naz has been dominating in the WNBL down in Australia, and now she’s back stateside looking like a perfect fit. Hoping to see her as a full-time Unrivaled player next season!

Lunar Owls vs Vinyl

Now… this one caught me completely by surprise. I cannot believe the Lunar Owls got knocked out by the Vinyl. Dearica called her own number and blew by Phee to win the game. Phee did have 36 points in the game but this is the one time I saw the Owls not firing on all cylinders. missing shots they normally do. They picked a bad time to be mortal.

Y’all know that I love me some T-Spoon so I was excited to see strong performances from Hamby, Rhyne, and Jordin Canada to pull through for coach and themselves. We love an upset. (some of us hehe).

Finals: Rose vs Vinyl

The only two teams to beat the Lunar Owls ended up facing off in the Unrivaled Finals, and honestly, this was the best possible outcome. We got two upsets in the semifinals, and these two squads were evenly matched, giving us a true battle.

In the end, The Rose came out on top, as The Vinyl struggled with inefficient shooting, while the rest of The Rose squad finally stepped up to help Chelsea Gray out.

The Rose are your 2025 Unrivaled Inaugural Champs! Crazy to think ESPN had them ranked dead last to start the season (but hey, ESPN’s women’s basketball coverage is usually mid, so not sure why anyone took that seriously anyway). Despite injuries and being down two players in the playoffs, they still found a way to get it done.

Personally, I’m hyped for Nola Henry, who caught so much flack all season as a coach. Welp… Black women win again—joke’s on y’all!

FINALS MVP: CHELSEA GRAY

THE CHAMPS: ROSE

If you want some laughs, please follow Nola Henry on Twitter LOL She has been coming for people since she won.

What now?

I’d say Unrivaled’s first season was a success! The product was fun, refreshing, and thankfully free of stan wars and heavy narratives. As the season progressed and teams started to gel mid-way through, the games got even more exciting. Plus, it gave fans a chance to discover and appreciate players who weren’t originally on their radar. Even teams that struggled still gave their fans fun content, and you could really see the chemistry and bonds forming between players.

Also, let’s be real—Unrivaled lowkey turned into a tampering fair 😂. Satou to Phoenix? Tash to New York? You can definitely chalk some of that up to the convos and connections being made behind the scenes in Miami.

I think this will carry over into the WNBA, with players like Allisha Gray, Courtney Williams, and others who don’t always get the spotlight now walking into the season with new fans thanks to Unrivaled.

They’ve got a 6-year deal with TNT and will be back in Miami next season. From what I’ve seen, players signed on for 2-year deals, and we’ll be seeing new faces soon—like Flau’jae Johnson and Paige Bueckers, who are expected to join after college.

Big shoutout to Stewie, Phee, and Mr. Phee for bringing this vision to life and giving us something new to enjoy in the women’s hoops space!
